Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering in Prescott
The 2024 edition of the Arizona Cowboy Poets Gathering will again take the stage at the Jim and Linda Lee Yavapai College Performing Arts Center on August 8-10. It’s the 36th annual Gathering of cowboy poets in Prescott. One of the city’s most popular events, this year’s Gathering features over 40 authentic cowboy singers, poets, and storytellers sharing the heritage and culture of the American cowboy for two days and three nights of entertainment.

Day 5 of Catch 22: Yavapai Silent Witness Seeks Information on Fugitive Joshua Fernandez
It’s day 5 of Yavapai Silent Witness’ Catch 22 Program. Today Yavapai County Law Enforcement is asking for your help in locating fugitive Joshua Fernandez. In March of 2022 Officers with the Chino valley Police Department arrested Fernandez for a valid warrant and theft that occurred in Prescott. When officers arrived at Fernandez residence and discovered he was attempting to hide from them in one of the bedrooms. As they attempted to place him into custody Fernandez began resisting the arrest and one of the officers sustained minor injuries. He was charged with aggravated assault against the law enforcement officers and resisting arrest.

Mayor Phil Goode’s Statement About the Passing of. “I was saddened to learn of the passing of a very distinguished Prescott resident, Jerry Welna, a World War II veteran who survived 17 engagements including the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Jerry served as a crewman aboard the USS Barton, a destroyer providing close support for the US Army Ranger Group, leading to their capture Pointe du Hoc. He later served in the South Pacific on the USS Sterett during the battle of Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Battle of Okinawa. Later, his ship survived a Japanese Kamikaze suicide pilot who crashed his plane into the side of the ship.
Understanding Impact Fees in Prescott
I urge all concerned citizens to participate in the Aug. 13 public hearing and subsequent public discussions. On Aug. 13, Prescott City Council will hold a public hearing regarding proposed impact fees affecting new residential and commercial projects. If council decides to move forward, we will have an Oct. 8 meeting to formally adopt the new rates, which would go into effect Jan. 1, 2025. There have been some concerns expressed about the steep increase in these fees. In this message, I will outline the factors that have made this kind of increase necessary.
