Early voting begins in Smith County Precinct 3 runoff election
Early voting began Monday for the May 28 runoff election. Registered Smith County voters residing in Commissioner Precinct 3 can cast ballots early now through Friday. The only race on the ballot is for Precinct 3 Commissioner after no single candidate received 50% of the vote in the primary election in March. Voters who didn’t participate in the primary can vote in the runoff election. Those who voted in the primary must vote for the same party.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The State Highway 155 exit on Interstate 20 eastbound is closed temporarily. The Texas Department of Transportation Tyler District said Wednesday there is no timeline on when the exit will reopen as crews work to resolve the issue.

Brook Hill’s Minter earns hold in Braves win
ATLANTA, Ga. (KLTV) - Former Brook Hill Guard AJ Minter pitched two-thirds on an inning in Atlanta’s loss to San Diego in game one of a doubleheader. The lefthander entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with two runners on and one out. Minter struck out Donovan Solano before allowing a line drive single to Jackson Merrill, which brought in Jurickson Profar. Minter closed out the inning by getting Luis Campusano to pop out to first base.
Lady Wildcats Season Ends With 3 to 1 Loss
The Brookeland Lady Wildcats softball team ended their season as a Regional Finalist when they lost game 2 of the best two out of three series with the Neches Lady Tigers 3 to 1 Saturday in Hudson. Brookeland lost game one on Friday by the score of 6 to 2. Neches which was a final four team last year needed seven full innings to eliminate Brookeland and secure their place in the UIL State Tournament.

Brownsboro sending six to next level
BROWNSBORO — Six students from Brownsboro High School signed to continue their respective sport or activity at the next level on Monday morning inside the Brownsboro gym. Twins Khayla and Khyra Garrett will go to National Park College for basketball. Madi Hernandez is also going to National Park College for soccer. Michelle Lewis will play basketball and run track at Hesston College. David Seagroves will play football for McMurry University. Jay Williams will be an athletic trainer for Stephen F. Lady Cats Drop Game One- 6 -2
Game one of the best two out of three Regional Finals series between the Brookeland Lady Wildcats and the Neches Lady Tigers went to the Lady Tigers by the score of 6 to 2. The Lady Cats will try to extend the series to a third game when the two teams meet for game 2 on Saturday at noon.
Smith County launches interactive road, office closures map
TYLER, Texas — Smith County has launched a new interactive map for residents to see what roads are closed due to hazards like flooding or construction. The map, which can be found here, became available on Wednesday, May 15. It allows people to see what detours can be taken and how long the road closures could last. County office closures will also be a part of the map.
