POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Looking for the opportunity to stargaze alongside astronomers? Spend your Saturday evening under the stars while immersed in nature at Powhatan State Park.

Saturday Under the Stars will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, with the group meeting at the park’s equestrian parking area.

Attendees can expect to look through telescopes and chat with astronomers from the Richmond Astronomical Society about visible stars, constellations and planets throughout the evening.

Organizers say telescopes will be set up adjacent to the parking lot area, but guests are encouraged to bring their own telescopes or binoculars.

Attendees are asked to use minimal lighting when entering or leaving the parking area and to use flashlights or headlamps with red-colored light to preserve the group’s night vision.

Those without a red flashlight or headlamp will be given a red filter for their light.

Visitors are recommended to bring chairs or blankets to view the sky comfortably.

Attendees must pay the standard admission fee to enter the park, though no additional event fee is required.
