MONTGOMERY – Fyffe High School junior running back Logan Anderson set a school record and fell just one shy of the AHSAA state record for touchdowns in a game to lead the defending Class 2A state champion Red Devils (12-1) to a 63-33 over previously unbeaten Locust Fork (12-1) last Friday to grab the AHSAA Football Playoff Spotlight for round three of the 2023 playoffs.

Two Gadsden area high school football standout running backs are on the cusp of entering the top-10 of the AHSAA record books entering the semifinal round. Cherokee County's Jacob Cornejo sits at 2,712 yards and 38 touchdowns on the year while Fyffe's Logan Anderson sits at 2,303 yards and 40 touchdowns. To enter the top-10 they would need to hit 2,865 yards or 43 touchdowns by season's end. Anderson's brother Payton is currently 10th with the 43 touchdowns.

Cherokee County, Ala. (WBRC) - A celebration and ribbon cutting took place Wednesday for the completion of a new six-mile highway in East Alabama. U.S. Highway 411 from Cherokee County to Etowah County is now complete. This is all part of Governor Kay Ivey’s Rebuild Alabama Program. This new six-mile highway between Turkeytown and Leesburg will provide Cherokee County with its first four-lane connection to an interstate.

Fortunately – the driver of a jack-knifed 18 wheeler – managed to escape injury after crashing the big rig here in Cherokee County.
