Pleasanton, Jourdanton compete in SQT
Just a few plays separated both Jourdanton and Pleasanton from advancing to the championship game in their state-qualifying 7-on-7 tournament over the weekend. The Indians finished Saturday with a 1-2 record and lost both their games but just one point. They fell to Navarro 20-19 and Lytle 21-20 before closing out the morning with a 12-6 win over Hondo. They fell behind by a score in the opening possession both losses.
Grass fire near Kenedy evaded the recent winds
Shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday May 28th a small grass fire broke out of unknown origins at the EOG Duncan-Mills location around the area of 3825 CR 240. The fire began around the flare tower. A large plume of black smoke could be seen for miles as the fire that was near empty 300-gallon plastic totes caught fire. Thirty of the totes were stacked together causing the fire to look more monstrous than it looked.

Just one day before receiving their high school diplomas, 21 Poteet High School seniors were among the graduates earning their Associate’s degrees at Palo Alto College. The college ceremony took place on May 23, followed by the high school’s graduation on May 24. It was made possible through the Early College High School program.
The Poteet Aggie Reunion
This week, I’m going to take our story to Poteet. This place has some history that is fresh on my brain. This past weekend I was asked to attend the Poteet High School Aggie Reunion on Saturday. Every year they add a class to their reunion and although my class is not on the list yet, I was able to attend to sell our recent publication from Arcadia Publishing. So, I was accompanied by our hard-working volunteers Camilla Mitchell and Laura Zuhlke, who sat with me for 3 hours and listened to the best dad jokes in my arsenal.

Strays to lifesavers
Atascosa Animal Allies has helped almost 6,000 pets since it was formed in October of 2017. We are addressing the overpopulation of stray and unwanted pets in our county through adoptions, transferring animals out of the county, working with Pleasanton Animal Control and Atascosa County Animal Control and by holding reduced cost or free spay/neuter and vaccine clinics.

Karnes County cares about the community. In anticipation of another hot summer season, Karnes County officials want to ramp up efforts to help their constituents by distributing fans to those who need them. Some community members do not have or cannot afford air conditioning or adequate cooling supplies. Karnes County will be accepting fan donations. “We are asking the community to help us help our citizens by donating new fans if they can,” Shelby Dupnik, Commissioner Precinct 2/Emergency Management Coordinator, said.
