PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WPRI) — A sedan ended up lodged under a school bus after a crash in Portsmouth on Monday morning.

The bus was carrying 28 elementary school students, according to police. There were no serious injuries, but one child was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

Police said the 19-year-old driving the car told officers he fell asleep at the wheel. The North Providence man was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The sedan driver was cited for laned roadway, interval between vehicles, and condition requiring reduced speeds violations, police said.
