    Downtown Portland homicide suspect arrested in Gresham

    A murder suspect was arrested in Gresham in connection to a fatal shooting in downtown Portland.

    Alexander J. Lewis, 33, was taken into custody Tuesday morning, May 7, by a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for the homicide of 33-year-old Aaron Beasley. Lewis is being held at the Multnomah County Detention Center for second-degree murder, unlawful use of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.

    The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Southwest 10th Avenue. Upon arrival, Portland Police officers found Beasley suffering from a gunshot wound. Trauma first aid was provided on the scene until paramedics arrived to transport the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

    Beasley’s family, who have requested privacy, were notified of the arrest.
