Water still off at Portland's iconic Ira Keller Fountain

The faucet remains off at one of downtown’s most recognizable landmarks, and that won’t change anytime soon.

The historic Ira Keller Fountain has been running dry for close to a year, after its aging pump broke in May of 2023.

City staff now tells KOIN 6 it’s unlikely to be fixed for “several more months,” meaning it won’t be flowing for some upcoming, highly visible events like the Rose Festival.

The Portland Water Bureau said in an email that the fountain still “…needs major repairs to its internal pump system.”

An attempt to reinstall the old pump in December failed, and the city says four months later its contractor is still waiting on specialized parts to arrive before they try again.
