Portland Police Chief Bob Day said at a meeting with the press Thursday that there is no known connection between the alleged arson and the ongoing Portland State University protests, the latter of which saw a number of people occupying the PSU library and accused of committing property damage. However, local and state leaders have released statements condemning both the violence at protests and the alleged arson incident. That includes Governor Tina Kotek and a joint statement released by Multnomah County Chair Jessica Vega Pederson, Sheriff Morrisey O’Donnell and District Attorney Mike Schmidt.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Portland police or call the PF&R Fire Investigation Unit’s tip line.
