Astemo expands Muncie manufacturing with $11M investment

Astemo Indiana plans to invest more than $11 million in its Muncie manufacturing operation, increasing production capabilities and supporting future growth. The project includes additional injection molding capacity and a new assembly line for intake manifolds used in internal combustion engine and hybrid electric vehicle applications, according to a community announcement. The Muncie City Council recently approved a five-year tax abatement to support the investment. “We appreciate the support of the Economic Development Alliance and the Muncie community. This partnership reinforces Astemo’s commitment to investing in Muncie, supporting our employees and driving long-term growth," said Alejandro Navarro Lopez, vice president of operations at Astemo Americas. Astemo's Muncie operation employs about 188 people Astemo's Muncie facility was established in 1999 and employs about 188 associates. About 70% of the facility's employees live in Muncie, according to the announcement. The Economic Development Alliance of Muncie-Delaware County worked with Astemo's local leadership in recent months to identify the company's growth goals and coordinate with local and state partners. "Astemo's decision to expand its Muncie operation speaks to the strength of this facility, its workforce and our community," said Traci Lutton, vice president of economic development for the Economic Development Alliance of Muncie-Delaware County.

Christmas Walk brings holiday activities to New Castle

The annual Chamber Christmas Walk will bring live reindeer, wagon and train rides, music, shopping and a Christmas tree lighting to downtown New Castle from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 20. The event is presented by Citizens State Bank and will be held in partnership with the City of New Castle, according to a community announcement. Roads will close at 3:30 p.m. before the event. The mayor's Christmas tree lighting at the 1400 Plaza is scheduled for 6 p.m. "We are thrilled to partner with the City of New Castle this year to bring even more holiday magic to our community," said Shonda Kane, executive director of the New Castle-Henry County Chamber of Commerce. "Combining our annual Chamber Christmas Walk with the City's Christmas Tree Lighting at the 1400 Plaza creates an unforgettable evening filled with lights, shopping, music, and festive cheer for everyone." RICHMOND, IN — Republican Austin Shadle on Tuesday was elected as judge of Wayne Superior Court 2. Shadle, a court commissioner, defeated an independent candidate, Jessica Richert, 8,702 votes to 5,185. He will succeed Judge Gregory Horn, who did not seek re-election to the Superior Court 2 bench. In another contested race, Republican Barry Ritter won the District 2 seat on Wayne County Council, drawing 2,973 votes to Democratic opponent Ryan Ogden's 1,622. In another Wayne County Council contest, Republican Richard Tincher won the District 4 seat over Democrat Tom Pennington, 2,165 votes to 1,909. Republicans Mark Cox (Wayne Superior Court 3 judge), Alan Moore (sheriff), Ashley Green (prosecutor), Amy Chenowith (auditor), Debbie Tiemann (recorder) and Brad Dwenger (commissioner) did not have opponents in Tuesday's election. The small Mississinewa Community School district’s ballot measure to increase property taxes lost by just 71 votes. So starting Monday, the district will cut one of its two school resource officers — and Superintendent Jeremy Fewell expects the cuts to continue from there. “We need to use as much money as we can to just keep our facilities up to par for the time being,” he said. “There’s no reason to wait going forward. We know these cuts have to happen, so why delay the inevitable at this point in time?” The district is one of 12 that failed to pass their referendums for more funding in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial results.
