1 injured in large building fire in Portales Monday

PORTALES, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) — One person was injured in a structure fire Monday afternoon at the US 70 and South Roosevelt Road P.

The Portales Fire Department said it was called to a fire in the area of US-70 and South Roosevelt Road P at 3:33 p.m. for a fire outside of the building.

PFD said its crews found fire in several different areas of the building and outside.

Timothy J. Cathey, Fire/EMS Chief, said affected buildings were a total loss, and personnel and units were tasked with exposure protection and blocking South Roosevelt Road P.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials with the PFD said multiple agencies, including six different fire departments, 27 units, and 34 firefighters, assisted with the fire.
