JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a suspect charged with murder in the Easter shooting death at the Laday Arena in Cheek. The grand jury indicted John "JJ" Gutierrez, 25, in connection with the shooting death of Javoris Potier, 30, of Houston. If convicted, Gutierrez faces up to life in prison.

On November 27, 2023, around 8:51 pm., Bridge City Officers responded to the 1300 block of Dogwood in BC in reference to a white female outside screaming. When the Officers arrived, they located 48-year-old Charity Carson and learned she had been assaulted at 191 Fernwood. Officers went to 191 Fernwood to speak with a male subject about the assault. When Officers arrived and entered the residence, they located 60-year-old Ned Gaspard lying on the kitchen floor with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Gaspard told Officers he intentionally shot himself.
