PORT CHARLOTTE — South Port Square is taking center stage in a new report from U.S. News & World Report.

South Port Square was named a 2024 Best Independent Living community by the media group. According to a news report, the ranking is based on “trusted, data-backed ratings” of senior living communities in the U.S. It looked at about 3,500 facilities.

“Our team is grateful to be recognized as one of the top senior living communities in the Independent Living category,” South Port Square Executive Director Brian Hess stated in a news release. “We look forward to maintaining our leadership position in the industry by continuing to provide exceptional care to our residents.”

According to the news release, criteria included “resident and family members’ satisfaction with safety, care, community management and staff, value and other services and amenities provided by the community.”

The “Best Senior Living” is designated to a few facilities that “satisfy U.S. News’ statistical assessment of performance on consumer satisfaction surveys administered in the previous two calendar years,” it stated.

It is based on the input of more than 400,000 residents and family members.

“Best Senior Living reflects U.S. News’ commitment to helping families navigate the important — albeit time-consuming — decision of researching and choosing a senior living community through trusted, data-backed community ratings,” U.S. News-Health General Manager Sumita Singh stated in the news release. “We are proud to recognize those communities that stand out as ‘Best’ by providing exceptional care and satisfaction, as directly expressed by residents and family members of residents who live and thrive in these communities.”
