(WWJ) A 31-year-old man wanted for a deadly stabbing in Pontiac, Michigan, has been found and arrested in Texas, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Last Saturday evening, deputies responded to a home on Ivy Street, on reports that a man was chasing a woman with a knife. The man, Juan Ramirez, Jr., then allegedly stabbed the woman's uncle to death, leaving his body in the basement.

The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Gregory Copeland.

Copeland's niece was found by deputies, sitting on top of a carport "in a highly emotional and agitated state," after being chased by Ramirez, according to the police report.

The 32-year-old woman had been dating Ramirez, the sheriff's office said.

Ramirez fled the scene, and the state, but was arrested Friday at a bus station in Dallas.

He is awaiting extradition back to Michigan to face charges of Second Degree Murder, and Assault with Intent to Murder.

Sheriff's officials said they do not know where Ramirez was headed when he was caught.

“I appreciate the hard work of our team and our partners to ensure that individuals that perpetrate this kind of violence are held fully accountable,” said Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, in a statement. “It should be clear you can run, but you can’t hide.”

Ramirez was paroled from the Michigan Department of Corrections on Dec. 5 of last year after serving nearly 10 years in prison for unarmed robbery and home invasion convictions in Oakland County.

He was placed on absconder status Feb. 14, after he failed to report to his parole officer.
