Through whatever means was implemented, the total vote count was a record high for Athlete of the Week as Henry DeYoung of the Pontiac baseball team overwhelmed the field to be voted the Pontiac Daily Leader's Athlete of the Week for the week of April 22-27.

DeYoung collected extra-base hits in three games as Pontiac won two of three games during the week. The highlight was his game-tying three-run double against Prairie Central. He had a double and two runs batted in against Monticello, and a double, RBI and run scored in a loss to Manteno.

DeYoung brought in 13,671 votes, which was 56.01 percent of the overall total on the Athlete of the Week poll this week. Faith Fields of Prairie Central came in a distant second with 5,091 votes (20.86 percent). Tori Seggerman of El Paso-Gridley was placed third at 2,308 (9.46 percent) votes. There were an overwhelming 26,410 votes cast.

The rest of the nominees were Olivia Chismarick of Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell, Lexington’s Blaine Friedmansky and Allison Epley of Lexington-Ridgeview. Averi Jury and Wyatt Statler of Dwight, Pontiac’s Boys’ track team and the Prairie Central boys’ sprint relay teams.

Each week we nominate a group of stars and you get to go and vote in our poll. The voting at pontiacdailyleader.com ends at noon each Friday. You can email Erich Murphy at emurphy@gannett.com by 9 a.m. each Monday to submit a potential nominee who may be placed on the ballot.
