POINT PLEASANT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – In celebration of the Opening Day of Point Pleasant Youth Baseball League, the City of Point Pleasant has announced the beginning of the Harmon Park Renovation Project.

This announcement marks a significant investment into recreational activities for the youth of not only the community but for the surrounding areas, according to the city.

The layout of the ball fields at Harmon Park will be completely rearranged to more efficiently utilize available space and offer a facility that the community can be proud of.

The new fields will be able to be utilized by both little league baseball and youth/high school-aged softball.

The city says that this creates a tremendous opportunity for the community to host large tournaments and attract teams from all over.

There will also be a two-story structure built in a central location to serve as a press box with a concession stand and restrooms on the ground floor.

A t-ball field will also be included in this project as this level of baseball is integral for the future of the sport.

In addition to the baseball and softball facilities, officials have planned for the future development of a new playground, additional pickleball courts, a walking track, and picnic shelters that the community and visitors can utilize.

City officials say the design shared is the “Conceptual Master Plan” and is estimated to be a $4.5 million project. This will likely be completed in phases based on acquired funding.

To date, officials have applied for funding through Congressional discretionary spending and will be seeking other grants as well.

Officials will also soon be announcing fundraisers and sponsorships for the project.

“We view this as an investment into the youth and future of our community, and we need our community’s backing to see it through. We are extremely excited about this project and are determined to see that it will become a reality,” the city said in a statement.
