POCATELLO — A local woman was arrested after she was driving while impaired and crashed in north Pocatello, authorities said.

Police said they arrested Kelli Hopkins, 43, of Pocatello, for driving under the influence following the 5 p.m. Friday incident.

Police said Hopkins, driving a Subaru compact SUV, was headed northbound on Hiline Road when her vehicle left the roadway and crashed through two residential fences before coming to a halt when it struck a tree on the 1200 block of Cherry Lane.

Hopkins was not injured in the crash but police said they noticed that she seemed impaired. Police also reportedly saw evidence of inhalant use, also known as huffing, in her vehicle.

Hopkins was subsequently arrested by Pocatello police for misdemeanor driving under the influence and booked into Bannock County Jail, authorities said.

The incident resulted in Hiline Road being shut down for about two hours while a tow truck removed Hopkins’ vehicle from the scene.

Police said the incident could have easily resulted in injuries but fortunately there were no bystanders in the path of Hopkins’ vehicle as it careened through residents’ yards.
