POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - A dedication ceremony for a new flood information sign on the Portneuf River in Pocatello is happening this Thursday.

The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the sign's location adjacent to the U.S. Geological Survey stream gauge station.

Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad and Director of the Idaho Water Science Center Roy Bartholomay will provide remarks on the importance of flood control and how they monitor the Portneuf River every day.

"The U.S.G.S. and Army Corps of Engineers worked on a similar sign in Boise, and then they contacted me about putting a sign on the Portneuf River," said Science & Environment Division Manager Hannah Sanger. "Talking about the history of the Portneuf River, the stream gauge that we have there that measures flow continuously every day all the time, and flooding events that have happened in Pocatello."

The sign also has a QR code that gives you real-time data on the streamflow measured each day.
