IGHSAU High School Girl’s Soccer Week Six Rankings
(West Des Moines, IA) – The IGHSAU has released its sixth week of the high school girl’s soccer rankings. These rankings are compiled by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Local teams in Class 1A feature Gilbert at #2, Des Moines Christian at #3, Nevada at #5, Underwood at #6, Panorama remains at #10, Treynor at at #11, and St. Albert rises to #13. In Class 2A, North Polk is at #2, Lewis Central is ranked at #8, ADM is ranked at #10, while Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson is ranked at #15 for the second straight week. Track and field season rolls on
While the Drake Relays took place last week in Des Moines, plenty of other teams still had opportunities to get on the track as the season hits the home stretch. The West Liberty girls were one such team to take advantage of this opportunity, placing third in last Thursday’s Arrow Relays at Wapello High School with seven schools in attendance.
South Tama County siblings Tommy & JoJo Tyynismaa reunite at Drake Relays
DES MOINES — For the second year in a row, Tommy and JoJo Tyynismaa were able to share an experience on the Blue Oval at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Tommy, a South Tama County senior, finished fourth in the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 54.33 seconds. He stayed on the infield after his race to root on older sister JoJo, a 2022 South Tama grad now running at Wartburg College, to a 10th-place finish in the university/college 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.00.
