An Aqua Solutions tractor-trailer driven by Michael Kobiernik rolled over on East State Road 54 on Wednesday afternoon, causing lane closures and minor injuries.
Think about this. If the state and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) had done what former Governor Holcomb announced in 2021 to start improvements on existing US 231 through Dubois and Martin County, we would already be experiencing the benefit of passing lanes and improved intersections. When first announced, $75 million was to be allocated to these improvements. Even if the cost doubled to $150 million, it is a fraction of the projected $3.4+ billion Mid-States Corridor.
When police and medics arrived, Lauzon was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s all over but for the shouting and celebrating. Some of us won, and some lost. But the fight is not over. The issues have not been resolved. The Mid-States Corridor is not a settled issue, far from it. Those of us opposed to the Corridor project have been in this very same place before. It didn’t stop us then, and the losses at the ballot box only energized our efforts.
