Many people in Allegheny County were awakened early by their phones, radios and other devices of a tornado warning in the area.

In places west of the City of Pittsburgh, many people got the alert just before 1:30 a.m.

The warning instructed people to head to the lowest part of their residence and take shelter.

Luckily, the warning expired without any tornadic activity in the Pittsburgh region.

But, several homes were damaged overnight after a likely tornado moved through eastern Ohio, the West Virginia panhandle and parts of the Pittsburgh area.

In the area of Sheperds Valley Road in Fairhaven, West Virginia, at least three homes were damaged.

The National Weather Service said that the radar confirmed a tornado moved through Irondale, Ohio and Fairhaven, West Virginia around 1 a.m. as the storms traveled across the region while adding that they expect at least one crew to be out surveying damage later today.

Several thunderstorm warnings accompanied the tornado warning with heavy rain falling all around Allegheny County and surrounding areas.
