The end is near for the former Froggy’s restaurant and several other dilapidated buildings in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Developer Michael Troiani plans to start demolishing the structures Tuesday, the culmination of a controversial four-year battle to bring them down.

Mr. Troiani said he has secured the city permits he needs to begin the demolitions of three buildings at Market and First Ave.

    Not everyone is happy.,

Michael Sriprasert, president of the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation tells the Post-Gazette “We continue to regret the demolition of these significant historic buildings on Pittsburgh’s most historic streets, The Pittsburgh Planning Commission cleared the way in December for the buildings to be razed after the developer pitched a proposal to install four bocce courts to replace them.

Froggy’s closed down in 2003 and was the hang out for professional Pittsburgh athletes and was featured on the hit TV show “This is Us”, which was set in Pittsburgh.
