There could be a major change to the schedule for career and technical school districts in Pennsylvania.

In December, Governor Josh Shapiro signed legislation that amended the PA School Code. This rule change made it so that instead of an exclusive 180-day school year, these districts now can choose an hourly basis for their instructional requirements. Representative Aaron Bernstine, who was one of the six legislators who introduced the particular bill, talked to KDKA Radio about why he believes the bill helps students.

“This is a situation in which students are then able to maybe go to school for four days and then use that fifth day in order to go out and continue to advance their education through working and making money”

Although most school districts will not be moving to a four-day school week, the possibility of doing so will help many students in the area.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, there are over 80 career and technical education centers (CTC) across the state. Within Pittsburgh, there are approximately 20 schools classified as a career or technical education center school.
