Long-running Zoo Idaho event to be held on Halloween this year
POCATELLO –- This year, Pocatello’s zoo will hold its biggest annual event on the holiday it celebrates — a relatively rare occurence. On Halloween, which falls on a Saturday this year, Zoo Idaho will be celebrating ‘Zoo Boo,’ an annual event that brings games, a costume contest and trick-or-treating to the zoo. The event is normally held on the last Saturday in October, so many years pass between Zoo Boo events that are held on Halloween. “This is the first time in almost 10 years that it’s on an actual Halloween. … So that’s a rare event, to actually have it on Halloween itself,” said Dan Al...

Laura Blad, a light for Pocatello, dies at 56 after 6-year cancer battle
POCATELLO — The Gate City got a little darker Sunday. Laura Blad, the wife of former longtime Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad, died Oct. 18 after a courageous six-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was 56. To her husband, her children, her grandchildren and the colleagues who spent their days beside her at Idaho State University, she was the lighthouse — both a beacon of love and a pillar of stability. “We definitely lost a light,” Brian Blad told the Idaho State Journal Tuesday, often pausing to collect his thoughts. “She was one that didn’t care who you were, where you were in life, what you looked like. She didn’t care. She just loved you.” Mackenzie Carr, a former ICCU Bengal Alumni Center colleague who became a close family friend, fought back tears as she tried to encapsulate such a bright fixture in her life in just a few sentences. “She is sunshine in human form,” Carr said. “We are all better off having known her and are extremely hurt because she’s gone.” Carr added, “She just loved life. She loved you.” Carr said she didn’t know the Blad family before starting at the Alumni Center, where Laura trained her. She went
