Building a Stronger, More Integrated Grid to Power Georgia

The Statesboro region continues to grow, attracting $130 million in new investment in 2025 alone. Supporting that growth requires a reliable power grid that can deliver electricity where and when it is needed. Georgia Power is uniquely positioned to meet rising energy demand brought on by this statewide growth. Georgia Power’s vertically-integrated grid connects 18 power generation plants, high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and local distribution systems, enabling the company to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to homes and businesses statewide. Plant McIntosh in Effingham County is an important part of that system. Operating since 1979, Plant McIntosh connects to Georgia Power’s regional transmission network and provides flexible peaking capability when electricity demand rises. Planned plant expansions will further support future growth and grid stability provides baseload and flexible peaking capability when electricity demand rises. Plant Vogtle also plays a key role in meeting Statesboro’s energy needs. Its four nuclear reactors provide dependable, around-the-clock energy to Georgia’s grid. Although the plant is located 50 miles north of Bulloch County, its power flows through the state’s 17,800-mile Integrated Transmission System, including Statesboro.
