DON'T forget to check your Powerball tickets as someone just became $1 million richer.

Desert dwellers should take particular interest since the ticket was bought in Arizona.

The winner bought the ticket at QuikTrip 479 gas station in Phoenix, according to the Arizona lottery.

It matched five white balls from the April 17 drawing but was one digit short of hitting the $78 million jackpot.

TICK TOCK

In this case, the ticket holder won't have a full year to claim their winnings.

Powerball and Mega Millions tickets in the state of Arizona expire 180 days from the draw date.

That means the winner has until October 14 to claim their prize.

The numbers matched were 24, 29, 44, 47, and 54, while the player missed 2 for the Powerball.

The odds of matching five white balls are one in 11,688,053.52.

According to the Arizona Lottery, there are six remaining Powerball prizes each worth $50,000.

HOW TO PLAY

The Powerball had its first drawing on April 22, 1992.

The multi-state draw game costs $2 per play, but Idaho and Montana bundle Power Play in ticket purchases for $3.

Power Play enables ticket holders to multiply their non-jackpot winnings.

Drawings happen every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET.

Ways to win the Powerball

Not everyone can win the Powerball, but there are several ways to win.

Players can match:

  • Five white balls and the Powerball for the jackpot
  • Five white balls for $1 million
  • Four white balls and the Powerball for $50,000
  • Four white balls for $100
  • Three white balls and the Powerball for $100
  • Three white balls for $7
  • Two white balls and the Powerball for $7
  • One white ball and the Powerball for $4
  • The Powerball for $4

The odds for winning each combination are:

The first draw is for the five white balls, and players select numbers ranging from one to 69.

For the red Powerball drawn separately, players pick a number between one and 26.

Winners are encouraged to sign the back of their ticket and fill out a winner claim form.

MEGA MONEY

Powerball isn't the only lotto draw game with prizes up for grabs.

A Mega Millions player in Rhode Island purchased a $1 million ticket for a February 2 drawing.

The ticket was purchased at a Stop & Shop in Bristol, and the matched numbers were 11, 22, 42, 64, and 69.

Rhode Islanders have a full year to claim lottery winnings, so the player has until February 2, 2025, to come forward.
