Man charged in Edgecomb crash has July dispo hearing
A July 8 disposition hearing is set for the Boothbay man charged in regard to a Feb. 8 head-on collision on Route 27 in Edgecomb. Alexander Nielsen, 33, was charged with operating under the influence after his vehicle collided with another. Later, more charges were approved by the court: aggravated assault, Class B; aggravated OUI, Class C; reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, Class C; and driving to endanger, Class C.
Coulombe Center presents 7th annual Award for Innovation
On a picture-perfect evening at Coastal Prime in Boothbay Harbor, Lincoln County Dental received the seventh annual Coulombe Center Award for Innovation on June 3. Lincoln County Dental was nominated for its innovative support of dental care for local United States Veterans. Keynote speaker Sarah Sherman, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, spoke about the program’s humble beginnings when it received a $35,000 grant from Northeast Delta Dental to improve veterans’ care. The award quickly moved to $100,000 and recently, a $300,000 grant was secured.

Public invited to forum on extending water/sewer on Barters Island Road
Community partners, including the Boothbay Harbor Sewer District, Boothbay Region Water District, Boothbay Region YMCA, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and the Town of Boothbay, invite the public to a community discussion about extending public water and sewer utility down Barters Island Road. This discussion will take place at the Boothbay Town Office on Thursday, June 20 at 6 p.m.
Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Southport Central School’s Playground expansion
On July 6 at 9 a.m., Southport Central School’s Playground Committee will be hosting a ceremony for the official opening of the new natural playground. The Committee welcomes all to attend (especially alumni), and the Gaudette Family will be on hand to cut the ribbon to officially open the playground and the Ramona Gaudette Mud Kitchen, which is dedicated to our beloved school cook of 57 years. Light refreshments will be served.

Well done, Wormfest!
The Wormfest group has hit on something. The founders picked an apt spot for the worm-digging theme, on the waterfront, and successfully walked the line of both honoring a serious and special piece of Wiscasset’s heritage and having fun off the theme, too, in creative events and more. Decades ago, who would have thought Wiscasset’s worm industry would inspire the 2024 middle school band to play the “Star Spangled Banner” on Railroad Avenue and families to put on hip waders and carry teammates who were the designated worms?
Pride flag draws mixed reviews in Southport
As Pride Month is celebrated this month, the Southport selectboard is receiving both positive and negative remarks about the Gay Pride banner hanging near the municipal building. During the June 5 board meeting, selectmen read two correspondences from citizens regarding the town’s participation. Selectmen read resident Bob Cronk’s response to their decision to hang a Pride banner outside the town hall for June and enact a municipal proclamation supporting Pride Month. Cronk disagrees with the board’s decision. On June 6, Selectman Gerry Gamage reported Cronk wrote he didn’t think it was appropriate for a governmental agency to take a public stand on a controversial issue.

I forgot to mention last week. We have a new game here to enjoy – every Thursday, beginning June 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – BINGO! I don’t think I have to explain the rules for this game. Just come and enjoy fun and your good luck!
Workers from away reception June 19
The Congregational Church’s Mission Committee has a long history of welcoming summer workers from near and far to our community by hosting a lunch gathering and gifting them with non-perishable treats and, most importantly, resources available for them to ensure a safe and welcoming experience in our community. These have included resources for housing issues, health care, police protection, Rotary bicycle loans for transportation, domestic violence protection, and activities at the YMCA.
June 20 sentencing hearing set for alleged BH shooter
A June 20 sentencing hearing is set for a Boothbay Harbor man allegedly involved in a March 19, 2023 shooting incident at Campbell Creek Housing Complex. Matthew A. Plummer, 42, faces three felony charges stemming from his alleged involvement in the shooting incident. Plummer was arrested by the Maine State Tactical Team and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office after a standoff.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office warns of 'sextortion' scams
BATH, Maine — Investigators with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office are issuing a warning for teens and their parents concerning "sextortion scams." In many cases, it happens when an individual shares explicit photos with someone they think they can trust online, and then that person uses those photos as a form of blackmail.

Janet Mills, Maine's governor, joined in the fun at Gleason Fine Art's June 7 First Friday reception for artists Kevin Beers and sisters Anne and Dorothy Eisner. Mills extended her evening in Boothbay Harbor by going out to dinner in town with Beers and a few local friends.
