    Shot Spotter Detection in Phillipsburg Leads to Arrest of Local Man with Prior Charges in Warren Township

    Authorities identified Javon Singletary, 18, of Phillipsburg, as a suspect in a case regarding a discharged gun in Phillipsburg.

    PHILLIPSBURG, NJ - An investigation of a discharged gun led to the identity and arrest of a Phillipsburg native.

    Authorities identified Javon Singletary, 18, of Phillipsburg, as a suspect in a case regarding a discharged gun. On Friday, April 12, 2024, the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to the 200 block of Stockton Street at 10:15 PM with reports that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, officers were informed that no one had been shot but that an individual discharged a gun, according to a release from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

    Local authorities confirmed to TAPinto, a 911 call was received, and the recently installed Shot Spotter technology had detected a single gunshot. Police immediately responded to the scene after the call and technology confirmed the incident.

    During the investigation, authorities were unable to locate Singletary. He was eventually located and arrested on April 30, 2024, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

    Singletary was charged with second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon , specifically a handgun, without obtaining a permit, second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily injury to a person with a deadly weapon.

    Singletary was previously charged in January 2024 with second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, according to arrest records from Somerset County Jail. He is currently being held in the Lehigh County Jail in Allentown, Pennsylvania, pending extradition to New Jersey.
