Motorcyclist killed in North Philadelphia crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in North Philadelphia.

The crash happened at the intersection of North Broad Street and Hunting Park Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say a Volkswagen Passat that was traveling northbound on Broad St. attempted to make a left turn into a gas station in the 1400 block of Broad St.

That's when, police say, a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle that was traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound side of Broad St. collided with the Volkswagen, which sent the bike airborne before landing on a sidewalk behind parked cars.

The motorcyclist, a 32-year-old man, was rushed to Temple Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 55-year-old driver of the Volkswagen stayed at the scene and was not injured.

Police have not yet released the identity of the motorcyclist, pending family notification.

No charges have been filed at this time. The Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
