AFC scout shares what makes Cooper DeJean's 'bust factor' so low

The Philadelphia Eagles might not have a plan for second-round pick Cooper DeJean right now, but he can play anywhere.

And that's what makes him so special.

In fact, his ability to act as a Swiss army knife in a crowded cornerback room is going to save him from being a complete draft bust.

"[DeJean] is good at everything -- not sure he's elite in one area but his bust factor is really low," an AFC scout told ESPN.

DeJean doesn't have to be great, but being good is a start, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio can take the reigns from there.

The Eagles just wrapped up rookie minicamp and they've already lined him up everywhere.

For now, they're just getting a feel for him but with Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell expected to start on the outside, it makes sense to have DeJean find a home in the slot or at safety.

If you ask DeJean, he doesn't care where he plays because he knows he has the tools to play anywhere.

“I feel like I’ve proven that I can play outside and inside,” DeJean said at the NFL Combine ahead of the draft. “Obviously, I haven’t played safety in college. But I feel like I have the ability to play multiple, different positions in the back end.”

DeJean never saw in-game action at safety but he took some practice reps. Per PFF, DeJean played the majority of his snaps at outside corner with 1,188 and 163 snaps in the slot during his final two years at Iowa.

“I’ll play anywhere,” he said. “I just want to play ball.”
