PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Five teenagers have been shot in Philadelphia in three separate incidents so far this weekend — one of them killed.

A 15-year-old was shot late Friday night at 50th and Spruce streets in West Philadelphia. He is expected to physically recover.

Patrolling officers responding to the scene around 11:30 p.m. say they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, and they saw several people running away from the scene. Officers caught two of them, believed to be teenagers, and took them into custody.

Police recovered two handguns from the scene. They say they are looking for at least two more suspects.

On Saturday afternoon, a 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound while in a basement along 23rd Street near Point Breeze Avenue in South Philly. He is also expected to physically recover.

A few hours later, across town in the Kingsessing neighborhood, three more teenagers, and a 22-year-old man were shot outside on a porch along 51st Street near Springfield Avenue.

An 18-year-old, who was shot in the face, died at the hospital. The two other teens gunned down include a 17-year-old, with four bullet wounds, now in critical condition, and a 17-year-old shot twice in the arm. A 22-year-old suffered a bullet wound to the leg.

“A group of males opened fire in the direction of a home … where there was some sort of a gathering, possibly to celebrate someone’s graduation happening inside there,” said Inspector D.F. Pace.

“The crime scene consists of at least 27 shell casings. There were shootings occurring on both sides of the street towards each other, and as a result of that, homes on both sides of the street were struck by gunfire, as were several parked cars.”

Detectives are now scouring the area for surveillance video, and speaking to everyone they can who was on that street.

“No one inside that home was shot. However one of the victims did run into that home, and that home is currently being held as a crime scene as well.”

All shootings are under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
