PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is estimated that 1 in 10 women suffer from endometriosis during their reproductive years. Endometriosis happens when the lining of the uterus becomes inflamed and, in some women, there can be endometrial tissue in areas outside the uterus, like the bowel and bladder.

Endometriosis can attack women in different ways, but painful periods, pelvic pain, and urinary symptoms are common. There are many other reasons for symptoms like these,  but if a diagnosis of endometriosis can be made, there are potential treatments ranging from hormone therapy to surgery. The key is making sure you don’t suffer in silence.
