    Pharr police provide update on fatal crash involving child on bicycle

    PHARR, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Pharr police provided an update on a fatal crash involving a child who was riding a bicycle.

    At 7:30 p.m. April 26, Pharr police responded to a call at the 700 block of E. Eller Street regarding an auto-pedestrian accident involving a young boy on a bicycle.

    According to police, an accident investigation revealed that a male driver was backing out of an apartment complex and then proceeded to travel forward, eastbound, on Eller Street where the boy was riding a bicycle and was struck by the truck.

    Preliminary information from police had initially stated that the child was struck while the driver was backing out.

    “The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating with police,” the Pharr Police Department stated.

    On Tuesday, the Pharr Police Department released a statement regarding the fatal crash:

    We understand the sensitivity of the incident that occurred last Friday. At this point the investigation is ongoing. We are working diligently  with all parties involved to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted. We also understand there is questions and concerns regarding the investigation and at this point when we have all the information that is needed we’ll provide that at that time. We also continue to  serve as a support system for all parties involved.
