Perryville house fire takes joint effort to extinguish

The Boyle County Fire Department and Perryville Fire Department responded to a residential house fire on Hays Mays Road in the Perryville community on April 28.

BCFD was called at 2:47 a.m. to provide extra tankers as the hydrants were not providing Perryville FD with adequate water supply.

The home was vacant at the time of the fire, as the family who lived there was out of town.

“The fire was called in by the alarm company from the hallway smoke detector,” said BCFD Public Information Officer Ben Thompson. “When firefighters arrived on the scene they could see smoke coming out of the windows and the attic eaves. When that happened, they called for more manpower and county fire.”

A Perryville firefighter sustained a medical emergency while fighting the fire and had to receive emergency transport to the hospital. He has since been released.

“He was evaluated and seeking further medical treatment,” Thompson said. “It was not an injury from the fire. It was a medical emergency that did occur as a result of the fire. “

The structure was determined to be a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

“It was a three-story house and everything was pretty much destroyed,” Thompson said.

BCFD was on the scene for three hours. Assisting agencies were Danville 911 Center, Boyle County EMS, Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, and Boyle County Medical Director.
