    Man dead after shootout with Perrysburg Township police

    Perrysburg Township police officers were involved in a shootout Thursday night that left a man dead.

    Officers were dispatched at 10:51 p.m. to 26795 Tracy Rd. in response to a 911 call reporting a man was in possession of a firearm, according to a statement by Chief J. Matt Gazarek.

    While searching the area, responding officers were met with gunfire from a man along Tracy Road.

    Gunfire was initiated by the man and officers returned fire, according to the statement. The exchange resulted in the death of the man.

    No officers were injured during the incident, according to the statement.

    The man’s identity has not been released as of Friday morning.

    The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been requested to investigate the incident. Per standard procedure of the township, officers that were involved are currently on paid administrative leave. City of Perrysburg police, Lake Township police, and Rossford police also assisted at the scene.
