The cancellation of a Perrysburg roundabout has led to a recommendation to use the funds instead for two other northwest Ohio projects.

Transportation advisory committee members voted last week on a proposal that will be presented to the metropolitan planning organization policy board at its June 5 meeting, according to a Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments spokesman.

The committee recommended shifting the previously awarded funding from the Perrysburg project to using the $2.9 million toward the city of Northwood's Woodville and Lemoyne roads roundabout project.

Additionally, the committee recommended awarding $1.05 million toward a roundabout project at Sylvania Avenue and Herr Road.

That would leave about $500,000 to be allocated during the next round of congestion mitigation and air quality funding next year.

The city of Perrysburg had received $4.6 million from the congestion mitigation and air quality funding to construct a $6.5 million roundabout at Front Street and U.S. 20.

After public uproar, Perrysburg officials nixed the roundabout. Opponents said it would have hindered bicyclists and pedestrians, taken up parkland, and negatively affect the neighborhood and historical area.
