Early voting attracts more than 6% of registered voters in Cecil County
ELKTON — When early voting closed Friday night more than 6% of the 72,182 register voters in Cecil County participated according to Gary Holmes, director of the Cecil County Board of Elections. Two thirds of those early votes cast were done at the Cecil County Administration Building in Elkton, with the remaining cast at Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene in Colora. Those 3,450 early voters put Cecil County in the limelight on the state level, Holmes said. "We were in the top 5 of voter turn out for counties in the State of Maryland," Holmes said. Elections staffers also have more than 3,000 mail in ballots that need to be processed. Holmes said the eight days of early voting meant long days for the election office employees but, he added there were no problems out of the ordinary.
