Details emerge on downtown plans by Tampa-based developer
Plans for hotel development appear to be moving forward at one of two undeveloped parcels in downtown Tallahassee that the city sold to a Tampa-based real estate firm earlier this year. It's slated to be a six-story, 153-room hotel with a 4,753 square-foot restaurant and garage with two decks, documents obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat show. The 908 Group and its hotel development partner, Mountain Shore Properties, submitted its early permit materials that are now under review. The company also plans to build student housing on the adjacent property near the proposed hotel site. "The proposed project is the development of a single parcel approximately +/- 2.65 acres," documents said. "The parcel is bound on the north by West Madison Street, the west by S. Bronough Street, the east by S. Duval Street and the south by West Gaines Street. Currently, the parcel is vacant with the exception of a paved parking lot area and beach volleyball court." Documents go on to say the parking garage will provide approximately 148 total standard parking spaces, or 141 standard and seven accessible spaces for those with mobility restrictions. It also said access to the site will be available on "S. Bronough St.,

Tallahassee mid-year housing market review
Seven months into 2026, the housing market is showing signs of unwinding from the pandemic-era frenzy that drained supply, pushed prices to record highs, and brought activity to a standstill. Buyers have more homes to choose from than they did at the start of the year, competition has balanced in a few slower markets, and price growth has remained relatively modest. Affordability is still a key issue and is limiting activity, though.

What's the Buc-ee's effect? Cities like Tallahassee may find out
Besides the "World's Most Famous Beach" itself, what Daytona Beach attraction draws the most visitors each year? If you guessed Daytona International Speedway, you'd be wrong. The correct answer is Buc-ee's, the mega gas station/travel convenience center that welcomed an astounding 5.4 million visitors over a 12-month period between 2022 and 2023. The Texas-based chain also has a location in St. Augustine that — like the one in Daytona Beach — is constantly packed. Both opened in 2021 and share the current crown of being the largest gas stations in Florida, each with 104 fueling positions and travel centers bigger than most Publix supermarkets. Four even bigger Buc-ee's locations in Florida are planned in the coming years, starting with Fort Pierce, where a massive 76,245-square-foot travel center and a gas station with 120 fueling positions is now most likely opening in 2028. The others are slated for Ocala, Tallahassee and Port Charlotte. Buc-ee's officials did not respond to requests for comment, but here's what those communities can expect when those future Florida locations open. Locally: Buc-ee's Leon County plans face another delay. Here's why Buc-ee's is encountering push back in some communities Founded in Texas in 1982, Buc-ee's Ltd. opened
