The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed The Monticello Emporium into the local business community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 16. Proprietors Keith and Nancy Plese have filled nine rooms within 200 W. Washington St. with a stunning array of antiques, vintage items, mid-century collectibles, jewelry, china, glassware, enamelware, paintings, wall decorations, fascinating lamps and more. The items, tastefully displayed for enjoyable browsing, may be destined for a special place in your own home or office.
Rick Knowles recognized for lifetime of achievement
When the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) reached out to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), asking if they knew anyone who worked at the agency who would be deserving of a Lifetime Achievement Award, one man's name came to mind in an instant. Rick Knowles has worked for the JCSO for the last 42 years, and Sheriff Mac McNeill did not hesitate to nominate him to receive this high honor. Knowles was presented with this award on Friday, March 24, in the company of JCSO staff and his wife, Reathea Knowles.

Thomasville Junior Service League donates $2,000 to YMCA for free swimming lessons for preschoolers
THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) — The Thomasville Junior Service League recently made a 2,000-dollar donation to the YMCA to give preschoolers free swimming lessons. The Junior Service League is an organization that focuses on helping kids within its community. The donation will give 58 kids 8 free swimming lessons over a course of 8 weeks. Kids will be selected by the school. Vice President of the JSL Danisha Carter says her favorite part is being able to help fill a need.
Cowboys win big against Wildcats
The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys varsity baseball team racked up a whopping 13 runs in the third inning of their game with the Wildcats of Echols County High School, from Statenville, Ga., on their way to an 18-4 win at home on Thursday, March 23. With the win, the Cowboys improved their season record to 5-4. After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning, the Cowboys pulled ahead, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the second inning. The Wildcats threatened to make a close game of the contest, scoring another two runs in the top of the third inning. Then, the Cowboys opened the floodgates as the Cowboy bats heated up, scoring 13 runs before the Wildcats could get the third out to finish the inning. The Wildcats were kept away from home plate through the fourth inning and the top half of the fifth inning. It was then time to call it a night.
Leon County Commission tackling homelessness in upcoming workshop
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Leon County Commission will meet with law enforcement and community partners for a workshop to address homelessness on May 23. County Commissioner Bill Proctor said representatives from the Kearny Center, the Big Bend Continuum of Care and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office will be in attendance providing updates on wrap-around programs and services they’re spearheading to tackle the issue.

Micahi Danzy breaks record in 400 Meters at FSU Relays
