Peoria Chiefs hand visiting Beloit Sky Carp first loss of season

PEORIA, Ill. — After winning their first two games at ABC Supply Stadium, the Beloit Sky Carp took their act on the road Tuesday night and fell a bit short against the Peoria Chiefs.

Peoria took a 4-0 lead and held the Sky Carp to one hit through five innings, but the visitors made it interesting down the stretch before falling 5-3.

Torin Montgomery singled and Osiris Johnson launched a home run to pull Beloit within 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning.

Peoria got a run back in the bottom of the inning against Edgar Sanchez. Won-Bin Cho walked, took second on a wild pitch and stole third before Alex Iadisernia belted a sacrifice fly for a 5-2 lead.

The Sky Carp got within 5-3 in the eighth when Joe Mack’s double scored Brett Roberts, but that was as close as they would come.

Beloit starter Alex Williams was touched for a run in the second when Zach Levenson was hit by a pitch with one out, took second on a wild pitch and scored on William Sullivan’s base hit to left.

The Chiefs added a pair of runs in the fourth after Yeuris Jimenez came on in relief. Iadisernia greeted him with a leadoff double and Jimenez balked him to third. Levenson knocked him in with a single. Michael Curialle was hit by a pitch and two outs later he scored on an RBI single by Dakota Harris.

Peoria made it 4-0 in the fifth. Brody Moore singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Leonardo Bernal.

Beloit’s Williams allowed two hits and one run in his three innings of work. He didn’t walk anybody and struck out five. Jimenez allowed five hits and three runs in his two innings, striking out two. Sanchez pitched two innings and allowed one run and one hit, walking two and fanning two. Josh White finished up with a scoreless innings, striking out one.

Peoria starter Inchan Paniaga (1-0) picked up the win, working five scoreless innings and allowing only one hit. Joseph King worked the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run with four strikeouts for his first save.
