WASHINGTON — Cinderella has found her Knight in shining armor. Upstart Richwoods has taken the Peoria baseball community by storm. As the seventh seed, the Knights upset top seed Washington to open the posteason, then rallied to beat No. 4 Limestone 5-4 on Saturday for the program’s first regional title since 2018.
Bruins softball machine to play Friday in Peoria
St. Bede's softball team is Peoria bound this weekend. After defeating Orangeville 6 -1 Monday at the Sterling Super Sectional, Shawn Son's crew wants to go further than their predecessors. In 2013, St. Bede took fourth in state and third in 2019. Now, this team has a date with Goreville at 10am Friday. Back on Monday, the Orangeville Broncos got their lone run in the top of the 6. They were saddled with some errors: One, in the first, involved overthrowing the first baseman and alllowing the Bruin's Tessa DeGosh and Lilly Bosnich to score. The Bruin's talented pitcher, Reagon Stoudt cracked a round-tripper in the third. Ella Hermes crossed the plate in the 5th and DeGosh and Bosnich, returned to each score in the sixth. Stoudt tossed 8 strike-outs, gave up five hits and there was one unearned run.
