In key statewide races, Philadelphia state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta beat Lehigh County Controller Mark Pinsley in the Democratic primary election for Pennsylvania auditor general.
Kenyatta will face incumbent Republican Tim DeFoor — who did not have a primary challenge — in the November general election.  Small business owner Erin McClelland won Tuesday’s primary election to snag the Democratic nomination for Pennsylvania Treasurer, a surprise victory that sets the stage for a tough matchup this fall with incumbent Republican Stacy Garrity.  Eugene DePasquale has emerged victorious from a competitive, five-way Democratic primary for Pennsylvania attorney general, DePasquale, the state's former Auditor General, will face party-endorsed candidate Dave Sunday won the two-man contest for the Republican nomination.

A majority of Luzerne County voters said yes to activating a seven-citizen commission that will study the county’s government structure and possibly recommend changes, according to Tuesday’s unofficial primary election results. The commission will have nine months to report findings and recommendations and another nine months if it is opting to prepare and submit government changes. An extra two months is allowable if the commission is recommending electing council by district instead of at large. Voters must ultimately approve any commission recommendation for it to take effect.

In the 120th Legislative District, Fern Leard has won the Democratic nomination for the 120th State House District.  Leard will face Republican Brenda Pugh, who notched the Republican nomination. The incumbent in the 120th, Republican Aaron Kaufer, chose not to seek re-election.  In a too close to call race in the 117th Legislative District, challenger Jamie Walsh leads incumbent state Representative Mike Cabell by fewer than 10 votes.  With no Democrats on the ballot, whoever wins the Republican primary is likely to take the seat come November.
