The annual Memorial Day events included a parade and several observances at locations in the community. It was one of numerous ceremonies held in Maine and across the U.S. to honor fallen service members.

‘Wistax-it’
Our municipal spending is going up again, mainly due to ever increasing costs for insurance, facilities, energy and wages. Tax increases are inevitable unless we change how we operate. Though many people say they are worried about higher taxes, the town overwhelmingly votes “yes” on budget increases every year. Town...
News and notes from the Community Center
It’s now Friday, just before the Memorial Day weekend. I hate to be the bearer of wet news, but next week will benefit all our flowers, vegetables, and certainly contribute to a taller lawn during “No Mow May.” Would someone please explain to me why we’re not supposed to mow lawns in May? My yard looks like a hayfield, even though I have mowed a couple of times anyway!
Response to candidate night comments
I am writing to respond to some troubling statements made during the recent Wiscasset school committee candidate’s forum that were simply untrue and cannot go unanswered. Please do not be misled to think our challenge is violent, drug dealing students or violent teachers who sexually touch students. Our schools are safe and our staff do great work with our students. The truth is we have students who need great educators – like our own Lincoln County teacher of the year – to help them succeed. Our present challenge is passing our budget to support them and electing someone who has their best interests in mind.

Asking for your vote
I am William (Bill) Maloney, I am completing my first term as a Wiscasset Selectman. My platform was one of fiscal responsibility and I have kept my promise. I have championed economic development for five years as we must expand our tax base. Last year the Select Board unanimously voted to hire an economic development director. The director is now in place and is working diligently to bring new businesses to town as well as housing.
Wiscasset needs Maloney
Wiscasset faces a tidal wave of challenges. Bill Maloney, with his remarkable ability to analyze situations and propose practical solutions, is the man to tackle them. I am grateful that Bill wishes to continue in his capacity as our selectman. Our town needs him more than ever. Kate Curran. Wiscasset.

Memorial Day ceremonies in the Boothbay region
Pastor Greg Foster of United Methodist Church, speaking at the first 2024 Memorial Day ceremony at Newagen, set the tone for the various messages on Memorial Day 2024 by quoting part of a speech on freedom by Ronald Reagan:. “Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one...
Vote for Merrill and Whitney
It is time for a dramatic change on the Wiscasset School Board. We need to refresh the Board with members who will be responsible to the parents, children, and taxpayers of Wiscasset. It is evident that we have lost trust in the board and the administration of the school. We...
