Every week, high school athletes across Michigan are accomplishing some pretty incredible things. Teams are winning championships, breaking records, reaching milestones and putting together seasons worth celebrating. Now we want to hear about them. The Detroit News is looking for Michigan high school teams worthy of being named Team of the Week. Each week, we’ll recognize five boys teams and five girls teams as finalists, giving readers the opportunity to vote for the team they think deserves the honor. Any boys or girls team, in any sport and from any region of the state, is eligible. Think your team deserves some recognition? Here’s your chance to make the case. More: Subscribe to “Michigan Sidelines,” our high school sports newsletter Nominations open at noon every Friday and close at noon every Sunday. Coaches, parents and fans can submit their teams for consideration, but every nomination must include a few things: A brief explanation, no longer than 250 words, detailing what the team accomplished. Include any championships won, records broken, milestones reached or individual and team accolades earned. Specific statistics and results that show exactly what made the team’s accomplishment special. The more details, the better. An email address or phone number

Howell Voters Approve District's Non-Homestead Operating Millage Renewal
Howell Public Schools is thanking voters for passing the district's non-homestead operating millage renewal Tuesday:. "Howell Public Schools is grateful for the support of district residents in approving both the non-homestead operating millage renewal and restoration proposals in the Nov. 3 election. Approval of the renewal allows the district to continue levying the 18-mill non-homestead operating millage beyond the expiration of the current authorization in 2027. Approval of the restoration returns the district's authorized millage rate to 19.0495 mills, the rate approved by voters in 2014. Under Michigan's school funding system, established by Proposal A in 1994, school districts must levy an 18-mill non-homestead operating millage to receive their full per-pupil funding as established by the state of Michigan.
