Man dies after driving past high water sign during flooding in West Virginia

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) — Officials confirmed that a person died in West Virginia after driving past a high water sign during flooding.

The Wood County Sheriff’s said they arrived on scene with a vehicle that had submerged below the water line with a man inside on Nicolette Road.

Officials confirmed from a witness that the man, in a blue S10 extended cab—the vehicle was a dark blue GMC Sonoma—drove past the high-water sign. The witness also told officials that he tried to warn the driver not to drive into the high waters, but he wouldn’t listen.

Officials were able to recover the blue GMC Sonoma with a dead person inside, who was identified as Donald William Muray of Parkersburg, age 75.

According to officials, there are no contributing circumstance which caused the incident.

This is the second confirmed death in Wood County as a result of flooding this month. The first week of April, the Associated Press reported that Valerie Ann Swisher, 49, died after her vehicle sank in high water .
