PHILLIPS — The primary suspect in a homicide case in Park Falls is being held at Price County Jail on $1 million bond.

According to a Wisconsin Department of Justice — Division of Criminal Investigation press release on April 24, Christopher Dyer, 50, is being held on an anticipated charge of first degree intentional homicide for the shooting death in Park Falls on April 13. The charge does not state the name of the victim, however, previous court cases involving Dyer include a restraining filed by Denise Schwarz, 57, of Park Falls, who died “tragically” on April 13 in Park Falls, according to area obituaries.

Price County Circuit Court ordered a harassment injunction filed by Schwarz against Dyer to remain in effect for four years in July 2023. The court previously granted a temporary restraining order injunction filed by Schwarz that was initially denied when filed in June, until a subsequent hearing showed probable cause of harassment against the petitioner. The restraining order stated that it did not include a firearm restriction.

At the time of the restraining order Dyer filed a change of address to Medford.

At another June hearing, Dyer was also ordered to pay Schwarz $5,231 in personal loans made plus court costs. The loans were reportedly for clothing and car repairs.

Earlier cases involving Dyer include a divorce proceeding with Julieanna Marie Dyer in 2017. The two were living in Medford.

There are several financial related court orders dating back to 2012.

A lien order for $2,141 was placed on Dyer for default on a Menards credit card in 2015. Memorial Health Center Clinics won a small claims court judgment against Dyer in 2013. A similar claim for $1,503 was awarded in 2012.

A court ordered Dyer’s wages garnished for a $2,263 debt in 2013. The court ordered a similar wage garnishment order for a $6,340 debt to Midland Funding LLC that same year.

A court granted a Bank of America foreclosure petition against a Medford property with Christopher and Julieanna Dyer named as defendants in 2012.

The most recent prior convictions of Dyer included an August 2023 charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and failing to display vehicle license plates in Medford.

According to Price County Sheriff’s Office call logs, a neighbor called 911 at 4:12 p.m. April 13, to report that his male neighbor had shot his female neighbor in their front yard and the woman was not moving.

Division of Criminal Investigation press releases stated that multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the 600 block area of Second Avenue North in Park Falls. An adult was found dead from gunshot wounds. The Lakeland Times reported that the Minocqua Police Department arrested Dyer on April 13.
