    ABC News President Kim Godwin announced stepping down from her position

    PANAMA CITY, FL. ( WMBB ) – On Sunday, the President of ABC News Kim Godwin announced she would be stepping down from her position.

    Kim Godwin first began her career fresh out of college as an Executive Producer at WTXL in Tallahassee.

    Godwin was the first black woman to lead a National Broadcast News network when she accepted the role over three years ago. She is also a Panama City native.

    “Now, four decades and countless miles later, having worked at all three broadcast news networks and 10 local stations in nine cities, I have come full circle from that small but mighty ABC affiliate in Florida’s panhandle,” Godwin said.

    “I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,” Godwin added.

    Debra O’Connell will oversee ABC News through Godwin’s period of transition.
