Things to Do in November: Theater & Performance
Want more? Here’s everything we recommend this month: Music, Visual Art, Literature, Theater & Performance, Film, Food & Drink, This & That. If you don’t know about the cultural phenomenon that is Oh, Mary!, then allow me to try and explain: Playwright Cole Escola’s Broadway smash follows the life of Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of her closeted gay husband, Abraham Lincoln. As the official press materials put it, the one-act play “examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln through the lens of an idiot (playwright Cole Escola).” Since the play’s opening night in 2024 (which originally starred Escola), the titular heroine has been played by Jinkx Monsoon, John Cameron Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, Megan Stalter, and Bowen Yang, among others. For the Seattle dates, drag royalty Alaska Thunderfuck will embody Mary Todd Lincoln alongside John-Andrew Morrison as “Mary’s Husband,” Wesley Taylor as “Mary’s Teacher,” Pooya Mohseni as “Mary’s Chaperone,” and Michael Lepore as “Mary’s Husband’s Assistant.” (Paramount Theatre, times vary) AUDREY VANN.
