    Friday's CIF-SS playoff roundup: Starting pitching leads three baseball teams to wins

    Strong pitching performances led three local high school baseball teams to first-round victories in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs on Friday.

    Alex Villacana allowed four hits and one run while striking out seven in a complete-game performance and Devon Wilkes hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to lead Pacifica to a 3-1 win over host Santa Paula in an all-county matchup in Division 5.

    Jordyn Gonzalez went 2 for 3 with a double, Sal Lopez was 2 for 3, and Byron Cibrian, JJ Carmona and Dario Navarro had hits for the Tritons (16-11-1), who will play at Whittier Christian in a second-round game Tuesday.

    Alex Tobias hit a solo homer for the Citrus Coast League champion Cardinals (16-10).

    Grayson Paul allowed three hits and two runs while striking out seven in six innings to lead Newbury Park to a 12-2 victory over host Flintridge Prep in a Division 3 first-round game.

    Paul Lizzul went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Cole Munyon hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBIs, Alan Espinal was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, Cade Falsken had a hit and two RBIs and stole six bases, Cameron Fausset was 2 for 4 with an RBI and pitched a scoreless inning, and Owen Meli went 1 for 2 with an RBI. The Panthers (16-12) will host Summit in a second-round game Tuesday.

    Koa Cunningham allowed just two hits while striking out six without a walk in 6.2 shutout innings and Luis Cervantes went 4 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead Hueneme to a 7-0 victory over visiting St. Bernard in a Division 7 first-round game.

    Jordan Garcia was 3 for 3, Ezra Juarez and Walter Nickerson each went 2 for 3, and Makoa Swanson was 2 for 4 for the Vikings (20-8-1), who will host Buena Park in a second-round game Tuesday.

    Elijah Clayton went 2 for 3 with a double and a three-run homer and Ty Hanley pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Oaks Christian in its 4-3 loss to host La Mirada in a Division 1 first-round game. The Lions ended their season at 14-14.

    Will Stubington went 3 for 3 with a homer and Matthew Witkow was 2 for 2 for Calabasas in its 5-2 loss to host Cypress in a Division 1 first-round game. The Coyotes ended their season at 19-10.

    Jake Barrett, Lucas Martinov, Nico Kajiwara, Nate Slaton and Gavin Willis had hits for Grace Brethren in its 14-0 loss to St. John Bosco in a Division 3 first-round game. The Tri-Valley League champion Lancers ended their season at 14-14.

    Shawn Chavez went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Steven Pena finished 3 for 4, Nolan Salinas went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Antonio Carrillo was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Channel Islands in its 6-4 loss to Leuzinger in a Division 7 first-round game. The Raiders ended their season at 8-19.

    Aiden Gomez went 3 of 4, Cooper Casey was 2 of 4 and Hayden Villa had a double and two RBIs for Foothill Tech in its 3-2 loss to Mary Star of the Sea in a Division 7 first-round game at DATA Middle School in Ventura. The Frontier League champion Dragons finished their season at 14-12-1.

    BOYS LACROSSE

    Two area teams are left in the boys lacrosse playoffs.

    Gavin Dyet and Brady Russ both had three goals, Kieran Brennan had two goals and Gavin Horowitz won 13 of 14 faceoffs as Agoura defeated visiting San Clemente 9-2 in a Division 2 quarterfinal game and will host Sierra Canyon in the semifinals Monday.

    Oaks Christian defeated visiting Linfield Christian 15-2 in a Division 3 second-round game and will play at Hart in a quarterfinal game Monday.

    Thomas Boyd had five goals, Jack Follette, Seth Jordan and Colin Andrews each had three goals and one assist, but Marmonte League champion Westlake fell to host Santa Ana-Mater Dei 18-4 in the Division 1 quarterfinals. Jacob Schnelldorfer made 14 saves and Osho Miglino battled to a 50% face-offs win rate for the Warriors (16-5).

    Oak Park lost to host Hart 13-7 in a Division 3 second-round game.

    Simi Valley lost to host Northwood 10-1 in a Division 3 second-round game.

    BOYS TENNIS

    Four boys teams advanced to the quarterfinals with wins Friday.

    Oak Park remained perfect on the season with a 12-6 win over visiting Canyon-Anaheim in a Division 1 second-round match. The Coastal Canyon League champion improved to 15-0 and will host Claremont on Monday.

    Karthik Tholudur and Jason Kiangv swept their doubles sets as Newbury Park defeated host ML King 10-8 in a Division 2 second-round match. The Panthers will host South Torrance on Monday.

    Camarillo rolled to a 17-1 victory over visiting Upland in a Division 3 second-round match. The Scorpions will play at Riverside Poly on Monday.

    Foothill Tech defeated visiting Downey 12-6 in a Division 4 second-round match. The Dragons will host Mark Keppel on Monday.

    Marmonte League champion Calabasas lost to host JSerra 15-3 in a Division 1 second-round match.

    Villanova Prep lost to visiting Long Beach Poly 13-5 in a Division 4 second-round match.
