    Wednesday's CIF-SS playoff roundup: Rio Mesa advances to volleyball semifinals

    The Rio Mesa High boys volleyball team knocked off the top seed Wednesday night to reach the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 semifinals.

    The Spartans swept Godinez, 25-23, 25-23, 25-22, at home to move within one victory of the championship match. Rio Mesa, which finished fourth in the Channel League, will travel to San Marino on Saturday. The championship match is scheduled for next Saturday.

    BOYS LACROSSE PLAYOFFS

    Jack Follette scored four goals, Seth Jordan finished with three goals and an assist, Colin Andrews had a goal and three assists, Osho Miglino won 21 of 26 faceoffs, and Jacob Schnelldorfer made 15 saves as host Westlake topped St. Francis, 16-8, to advance to the second round of the Division 1 boys lacrosse playoffs. Wyatt Boynton had two goals and an assist and Miglino added two goals for Westlake (16-4), which will visit fourth-seeded in Friday’s quarterfinals.

    Kieran Brennan had four goals and Gavin Horowitz won 12 of 14 faceoffs as Agoura went on the road to beat Chino-Santiago, 9-3, in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs. The Chargers (14-3) will host second-seeded San Clemente in Friday’s quarterfinals.

    Ethan LaSecla and Justice Mramor scored two goals apiece and Riley Williams had two assists, but Grace Brethren fell 8-5 at Brentwood in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs. Jaadin Weyandt added a goal, Kale Knighten added an assist and Rocco Dantona had four clears for the Lancers, who end their season 8-8.

    Chris McKay had two goals, Shane McInerney, Jake Rangel and Adrien Davis scored goals, Cade Troxel had eight ground balls, Lucas Garcia won 8 of 13 faceoffs, and Josiah Palacios made 12 saves, but Newbury Park fell 12-5 at El Segundo in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.

    Oaks Christian , the top seed in Division 3, turned away Calabasas-Viewpoint, 7-3. The Lions (10-6) will host Linfield Christian in Friday’s Division 3 quarterfinals.

    Simi Valley edged Placentia-El Dorado, 4-3, in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs. The Pioneers will host Irvine-Northwood in Friday’s Division 3 quarterfinals.

    Oak Park , which had a first-round bye in Division 3, will host Hart on Friday at 5 p.m. The Foothill League champion beat visiting Corona, 15-6.

    BOYS TENNIS PLAYOFFS

    Calabasas defeated visiting San Marino 15-3 in the first round of the Division 1 boys tennis playoffs. The Coyotes will play at JSerra on Friday.

    Karthik Tholudur and Jason Kiang swept their doubles sets to lead Newbury Park to a 13-5 win over visiting Dos Pueblos in a Division 2 first-round match. The Panthers will play at ML King on Friday.

    Oaks Christian lost to host Santiago Christian 12-6 in a Division 2 first-round match. The Lions finished their season at 8-7.

    Royal lost to host Downey 12-6 in a Division 2 first-round match.

    Simi Valley lost to visiting Flintridge Prep 11-7 in a Division 2 first-round match.

    Camarillo defeated visiting Hart in a Division 3 first-round match. The Scorpions will host Upland on Friday.

    Thacher lost to host St. Margaret's 13-5 in a Division 3 first-round match.

    Ventura lost in games after playing host Oakwood to a 9-9 tie in sets in a Division 4 first-round match.
